Floating on water, more and more cows are enjoying the comfort and pressure distribution offered by waterbeds. But it goes beyond comfort: waterbeds also contribute to the health and well-being of cows. In this article, you will discover the benefits and how they contribute to healthier cows.
In barns where cows lie on waterbeds, injuries are less common. Because the cow's weight is evenly distributed, pressure points do not occur. This prevents bare and swollen heels.
An additional advantage of waterbeds is their temperature regulating effect. When the waterbed is placed directly on the concrete, the cow releases its heat to the concrete. Waterbeds therefore help cows dissipate heat.
Cows generally stay cleaner in barns with waterbeds. This is due to the curved shape of the waterbeds, which allows moisture to easily run off the surface. As a result, the beds remain drier and cleaner, improving hygiene in the cubicles.
A cleaner environment also means a lower risk of infections. Since the cows' teats are less likely to come into contact with dirt or moisture, the risk of udder infections (mastitis) is significantly lower in barns with waterbeds.
Research shows that cows on waterbeds lie down more often and rest longer. This is because the beds offer extra comfort. Each extra hour of lying down per day can produce up to 1.59 kg of extra milk per cow per day.
Our Dual waterbeds consist of two separate compartments. The front compartment provides extra comfort for the knees, while the back compartment offers support for the belly and heels. This thoughtful layout makes it easier and more comfortable for cows to lie down, improving their rest and well-being.
