New construction for Spinder is taking off in Drachten!

27 June 2018

The new construction for Spinder Dairy Housing Concepts is taking off; alderman Bakker is laying the foundation stone.

Livestock housing specialist Spinder Dairy Housing Concepts, currently based in Harkema, is having an entirely new factory with office built at the Azeven North industrial estate in Drachten. At 7am on Friday 13 July, in the presence of mayor Van Mourik, the foundation stone was laid by alderman Bakker (Economic Affairs) of the municipality of Smallingerland.

The building, consisting of an office, showroom and factory, will measure almost 20,000 square metres and stands on a plot of land of more than 6 hectares. The building is designed with possible future expansion in mind. The total investment in land, buildings and machinery amounts to approximately 12.5 million euros.

Business activities are expected to be transferred to the new location in stages, starting in the summer of 2019. Bouwgroep Noord from Drachten is responsible for the construction, and Langhout & Cazemier, a Drachten-based consultancy firm, is involved in the design and internal logistics of the factory.

Under one roof

The new building will put all activities back under one roof. Spinder are currently experiencing limitations from sheer necessity, since they are working from two locations in Harkema. Many products are held in stock for quick delivery to customers, which requires considerable storage capacity. In addition, the new building will have a modern production area, an office environment, a showroom and a reception area for visitors. The relocation, expected to be completed in 2020, will also be used to modernise the production process and the means of production, and to respond to the growing turnover.

Despite fluctuations in profitability in the dairy sector, Spinder see a great future for their range of products. Spinder's livestock housing concepts offer cow comfort as well as comfort for the dairy farmer, and have a distinctive position on the European market. Spinder are in a unique position thanks to their ability to deliver customised solutions.

In 1973, Tjip Spinder started producing and selling dividers and feed fronts for the dairy industry under the name 'Spinder Stalinrichting'. What started out as a metalworking shop with a few employees soon became a small factory and grew into Spinder as we know it today: a leading supplier with a modern assortment for contemporary dairy farming. Based on their own product development; often just a little different from what competitors can offer.

Total supplier for cow comfort

The livestock housing concepts for resting, eating, drinking, cow traffic, care and manure removal have been developed around comfort for both the cow and the dairy farmer. For instance, take the Cuddle box, which won Spinder an award in 2016 at the biennial Eurotier trade fair in Hanover, and the Highline feed front with extra attention to safety for cows and farmers. An excellent addition to the range are the BUC waterbeds for cows, a brand that Spinder took over in September last year. This makes Spinder a total supplier for cow comfort.
